The Mandrake
Memorial - Medium
The Mandrake Memorial formed in
Philadelphia in the late 1960s as a four piece with Randy Monaco on bass, Craig
Anderton on guitar, Michael Kac on keyboards and Kevin Lally on drums. Their style betrays a not-unexpected amount
of psych consistent with the era, but includes enough complexities to help push
their credentials as one of the first fully progressive outfits – unlike other
late ‘60s groups that started in blues, R&B, pop or psychedelic veins and
moved over time into more progressive structures. The group released three albums altogether:
Mandrake Memorial (‘68), Medium (‘69) and Puzzle (‘69).
