Tukhmanov – On the Crest of My Memory
A puzzling cover to suit this equally puzzling
composition by Soviet composer David Tukhmanov. But don’t think puzzling translates to
questionable quality. On the contrary,
this is a special album indeed which most certainly fits the bill as
Progressive.
Tukhmanov was the composer of
film scores in the 70s and 80s and several Russian Radio hits. On the
Crest of My Memory from 1975 finds Tukhmanov
riding a wave (pardon the pun) of creativity.
Stylistically, he incorporates folk and symphonic elements, though the
work as a whole does not really fall into either of these categories. This is one which may require more than the
first listen to better appreciate (which is usually a mark of excellence).
